About
We are security researchers at Stony Brook University. We are currently conducting an experiment trying to understand the market share of different Content Management Systems (CMSs) on the public web. As part of that experiment, our crawlers navigate popular and less popular websites and request specific passive resources (like JavaScript scripts and style files) associated with specific CMSs.
Example requests that our crawlers send
- /wp-includes/js/dist/components.js used to detect whether a website is running WordPress
- /core/misc/drupal.js used to detect whether a website is running Drupal
- /theme/classic/style/moodle.css used to detect whether a website is running Moodle
If you are reading this page, our crawlers have presumably visited your website. Please rest assured that we are not conducting any attacks nor send any traffic that is in any way dangerous to your website. We are merely asking for files that are associated with specific CMSs. All our past research is publicly available at our main website: securitee.org.
